The 2019-20 high school boys’ basketball season is entering its final weeks, but basketball fans in Southern Indiana already have a reason to be excited about next year.
New Albany Athletic Director B.J. McAlister confirmed Monday that the Bulldogs will host Blackford High School, which features prolific scorer Luke Brown, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020.
Brown, a junior this season, currently leads the Hoosier State in scoring and assists.
“New Albany’s Doghouse is a special atmosphere in Indiana high school basketball,” McAlister said. “We want to deliver quality opponents and unique game experiences to our passionate and loyal fan base, especially those that are capturing statewide attention.”
Brown became the faster player in state history to reach 1,000 points, needing just 32 games to reach that mark. He averaged 27 points per game his freshmen season until he suffered a broken leg with nine games remaining.
“He’s an exciting player that has an unusual ability to shoot the basketball,” said Blackford coach Jerry Hoover, a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. “His statistics and accomplishments speak for themselves.”
McAlister hopes the game attracts basketball enthusiasts from across the area.
“We will always be on the outlook for premier opponents and special opportunities to entertain the best basketball fans in the state,” McAlister added.
