Girls Varsity Soccer · 6 Bulldogs named to HHC All Conference

The New Albany Girls’ Soccer Team finished 3rd in the Hoosier Hills Conference (5-2) with an overall record of 9-3-2 during the 2019 season with 6 players earning All-Conference accolades.

Junior Grace Barber was named 1st team All-Conference. Grace led the Bulldogs in scoring this season with 19 goals and added 5 assists. Grace started every game for the Bulldogs this season playing forward and midfield. Grace has an incredible ability to find the back of the net using her powerful shot upfront. Grace had a clutch goal with just 22 seconds remaining against Seymour to put the Dogs up 1-0. That win put the NAGS in a great spot for a top 3 conference finish.

Senior Captain Bella Crist earned HHC All-Conference Honorable Mention. Bella was the ultimate utility player this season playing every position on the field. Bella started and played the majority of the season at the center back position, but due to injuries to our starting keeper, she also filled in as goalie throughout the season. Bella racked up three assists playing from the back and also tallied 2 shutouts in three starts as keeper.

Junior Emma Lopp was also named to 1st team All-Conference. Emma was second for the Bulldogs in goals scored (13) and led the team in assists with 9. No bigger assist came than the Seymour game where she found Grace with 22 seconds left for a big conference win.  Emma helped propel the Bulldogs in their first conference game of the season when the team found themselves down 1-0 on the road at Bedford North Lawrence but Emma led a second half resurgence with 4 of the 6 Bulldog goals.

Senior Captain Maddy Myers was also named to 1st team All-Conference. Maddy helped lead a strong back line starting most of the year as an outside fullback.  Maddy tallied 6 goals and 3 assists during the year. Maddy’s best goal came in the season opener against Jasper when she stole the ball at midfield, beat a defender and from 25 yards out, hit an incredible shot to the back of the net. That goal proved to be the game winner in a 2-1 win. Maddy’s season was cut short with a knee injury late in the season which proved to be a huge loss for the NAGS.

Senior Captain Londyn Riley earned HHC All-Conference Honorable Mention. Londyn started every game for the Bulldogs playing the majority of her minutes in the center mid-field position.  She was an incredible force defensively and did a great job transitioning the ball to our powerful offense. Londyn racked up 4 goals and 1 assist during the year in addition to filling in on the back line.

Junior Emery Tanksley earned HHC All-Conference Honorable Mention. Emery started every game as a center defender for the Bulldogs while scoring 1 goal on the season. Emery provided stability and leadership on the back line and was a big part of the teams 1.28 goals against average including the teams 5 shutout victories.
