What began on a warm, sunny day in June ended on a cold, rainy day in October. The 2019 New Albany Gentleman Striders wrapped up the competitive season with a moderately surprising 10th place finish in the southern semi-state. This is the same finish position as the 2018 team. The final race for senior Angelo Gonzalez was a good one with a 40th place finish. This was also the last race for seniors Joey Roberts and Collin Malloy. Their service to the team and leadership will be missed.
Despite the losses the future looks promising. With the weather and the course deteriorating the underclassmen had a smile-inducing performance.
Freshman Aaron Lord ran a person best 17:17. Junior Greg Schindler ran 17:38. Freshman Isaac Cooley ran a personal best 17:48 and freshman Aidan Lord post a respectable 17:51. This quartet will serve as the core group in the 2020 season. Until then we will enjoy our other interests and help the other teams at NAHS achieve their respective goals.
Personally, Coach Ellis wants to thank all the parents, athletes, coaches, and staff who helped make this season what it is.
